Master of Science (M.Sc.)

  • Three options:
    • Thesis option (2 years)
    • Course-based Co-op option (2 years)
    • Course-based option (1 year)

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

  • 5 years

Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • MSc program
    • 4 year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
    • Minimum B+ average in last 2 years of study or A- (80%) grade average in 12 credits of 3rd/4th years
  • PhD program
    • Masters degree or equivalent
    • Overall average grade of B+ (76% at UBC)
    • First-class bachelor’s degree with 1 year of MSc studies may be accepted (research potential needed)
    • required to complete 12 credits with a first class average during their first year of study: at least 9 credits (500-level or above) and at least 9 credits must be of first class standing
    • Students lacking necessary undergraduate preparation may be admitted into a qualifying year program
    • Students with an overall A grade average in an honours bachelor’s degree may be accepted directly
