Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent from a recognized academic institution
    • Preference given to students with a background in science, especially biological sciences
  • Minimum undergraduate grade point average equivalent to 3 (on a 4 point system with the highest grade = 4) during the last 10 full course equivalents (30 course weights)
    • Usually undergraduate grade point average equivalent to 3.2 (on a 4 point system) during the last 10 full course equivalents.
  • Prospective applicants are encouraged to correspond directly with a faculty member, but applicants must first be accepted into the Departmental program before finalizing supervisory arrangements. A student will be recommended for admission into the program only if a suitable faculty member of the department is prepared to act as the student's supervisor.

Other Requirements

  • Applicants with degrees in non-English languages may need to demonstrate English language proficiency
    • TOEFL:
      • Internet based test: 100 (at least 20 in each component)
      • Paper based test: 600
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.5 (at least 5 on each band)
    • CAEL: minimum score of 60 (at least 60 on each subset)
    • MELAB: minimum score of 85

Deadlines 2012-2013

  • Admission is done on a rolling basis
    • Preferably, submission of application materials at least three months before anticipated matriculation
    • Applications from foreign students may take longer to process so should be submitted well at least 6 months before the anticipated start of the graduate program.

Tuition 2012-2013

  • Minimum stipend for 2012/2013 is $20,500 per annum
  • $3,937 per year for Canadian applicants program fee
  • $6,395.82 for Foreign applicant program fee.
