Admissions Requirements

Note: Applicants are recommended to directly contact an individual researcher from the Department to learn more about the available projects.

Course and Degree Requirements

  • M.Sc.
    • Degree: Bachelor’s degree (preference to those with a background in Biological Sciences)
  • Ph.D.
    • Degree: Master's degree (preference to those with a background in Biological Sciences)

GPA

  • Minimum grade: 3.2 out of 4.0
  • GPA calculated based on the most recent 2 years of coursework (or last 60 course credits)

  • GRE is not required

  • English Language Proficiency Test (where applicable):
    • TOEFL (Paper based: Overall 600+, Internet based: Overall 100+ with 20+ in each section)
    • PTE Academic (minimum 70% overall)
    • MELAB (minimum 91% overall)
    • CAEL (minimum 70 overall and 70 in each subject)
  • Applicants may be required to submit their official transcripts and degree certificates from all post-secondary institutions attended

Timeline/Deadlines

  • Applications to the graduate programs are considered at regular intervals throughout the year
  • The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research does not have any deadlines for Canadian or USA students. However, new deadlines may be established by the department.
  • Deadlines for international admissions:
    • September Entry: July 1
    • January Entry: November 1
    • May Entry: March 1
    • July Entry: May 1

Note: Students are recommended to submit the materials required for admission at least 3 months before the expected starting date of their program. International students should submit their documents at least 6 months before the starting date of their program.

Tuition 2018-2019

Approximations:

  • Canadian students:
    • Thesis-based M.Sc. and Ph.D.: $ 5,635 per year
    • Course-based M.Sc.: $ 5,570 per year
  • International students:
    • Thesis-based M.Sc. and Ph.D.: $ 9,250 per year
    • Course-based M.Sc.: $ 10,260 per year
