  • Master’s Program (MSc)
    • Maximum of four years
    • Average completion time is 2.5 years
    • Must be full time
  • Doctor’s Program (PhD)
    • Maximum of six years
    • Average completion time is 5 years

  • Degree: Master’s Program
    • Bachelor’s degree from academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta
  • Degree: Doctor’s Program
    • Master’s degree or equivalent from academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta

  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Competitive GPA: 3.5 to 3.6

TOEFL

  • For international students only
  • Waived if you have
    • possession of a degree from an institution recognized by U of A and where taught in English
    • proof of English language coursework at secondary school level
  • Minimum score of 570 PBT, 95 iBT (min. of 20 in each cat.)
  • IELTS minimum overall of 7.5 (6 in each)

  • Canadian & Permanent resident students
    • Application and all supporting documents is recommended to be submitted at least 6 weeks before the start of the term
  • Applications will be accepted any time, however the Graduate program starts either September 1st or January 1st.
  • International students (recommended deadlines)
    • May 15 for Sept entry
    • Sep 15 for Jan entry
    • Jan 15 for May entry
    • Mar 15 for July entry

Tuition 2009-2010 and Funding

  • Domestic fees - $4 626.24
  • International fees - $8 216.16
  • Guaranteed Department Funding of $17 500 for every student
