Program Information

  • Master of Science (MSc)
  • Computer Science (MSC with Essay/Internship)
  • Computer Science (MSC with Thesis)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
  • Applicants may enter the Computer Science program for either the Fall, Winter or Summer semester (except for the MSc with Essay/Internship which is only available in Fall or Winter)
    • The applicant in the Master’s program must be enrolled for at least 2 full semesters.
    • The applicant in the PhD program must be enrolled for at least 4 full semesters.

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent degree
PhD Program
  • Degree: Master’s program in Computer Science or an equivalent diploma

  • Minimum: 2.67 out of 4.33 during the applicant’s Bachelor’s program

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of French and also some knowledge of English
  • Proof of French proficiency with either:
  1. A DEC obtained after 1997 in a francophone academic institution
  2. Successful completion of the test issued by the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec used until 1998
  3. An attestation issued by another francophone university which includes requirements on general knowledge of the French language deemed equivalent by the Université de Laval
  4. A diploma obtained from a French lycée (the applicant must submit a demand for an exemption from doing a French test such as the Test de français Laval Montréal (TFLM) to the registrar’s office.
  5. Successful completion of a francophone test (such as the TFLM) for francophone students. Non-francophone students must do a test designed for non-francophones and if their results are not sufficient, they may have to pass French courses (which do not count as credits towards the Medicine program).
  • Students who obtain less than 60% on the TFLM must pass 2 French courses in which the first one must be done within the first year of their program. The 2nd course must be completed within the first 2 years of their program.
  • Students who obtain between 60% - 75% must complete one French course within the first 2 years of their program.
  • Students who obtain 75% or more do not need to do a French course.
  • Students with a Bachelor’s degree in Education for English as a second language who obtain less than 60% must pass a French course within the first 2 years of their program. Those who get more than 60% do not need to do a French course.
