Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Minimum 3 years of undergraduate study (90 semester hours)
  • Required Courses
    • Biology/Zoology (6 credits)
    • General Chemistry (6 credits)
    • Organic Chemistry (6 credits) OR Organic Chemistry (3 credits), Biochemistry (3 credits)
    • English (6 credits)
    • Mathematics (6 credits)
    • Microbiology OR Bacteriology (3 credits)
    • Physics (6 credits)
    • Psychology (3 credits)
    • Statistics (3 credits)

GPA

  • Minimum: 2.5 (applicants below 2.5 average should consult Office of Admissions)
  • A minimum of 2.0 in all prerequisite courses is required

Supporting Documents

  • Letters of evaluation from three natural science teaching faculty
  • Optometry Admissions Test (OAT) score
  • Transcripts from universities attended
  • Immunization records for Hepatitis B
  • TOEFL scores (where applicable)


Timeline

  • July 15, 2011: Application by OptomCAS opens
  • Sept. 1, 2011: Student application reviews begin
  • Oct. 1, 2011: Interviews are scheduled and initiated
