Admissions Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

Requirements for Master's degree in Occupational Therapy Msc (OT) or Physiotherapy MSc (PT)

  • graduating from a 4-year baccalaureate degree (120 units/credits):
    • A minimum average of B or 75% or 3.0/4 or 8/12, calculated over the last 60 units of your university course work.
  • graduated from a 3-year baccalaureate degree (90 units/credits):
    • 3-year baccalaureate degree (90 units/credits)
    • plus an additional 30 units/credits to now total 120 units/credits in all
    • 18 units/credits must be at the fourth-year level or above.
    • A minimum average of B or 75% or 3.0/4 or 8/12, calculated over the last 60 units of your university course work.

In addition to the above requirements, the MSc (PT) degree requires:

  • A full or half credit in one biological or life science course with a grade of B or 75% or 3.0/4 or 8/12 or higher.
  • A full or half credit in one social science or humanities course with a grade of B or 75% or 3.0/4 or 8/12 or higher.

GPA

  • Minimum grade/GPA: 3.64 for OT and 3.71 for PT.
  • Applicants will be ranked on a combination of their pre admission sub-GPA (25% of final ranking) and their interview scores (75% of final ranking)

Timeline 2015-2016

  • Mid October 2015: Application becomes available through ORPAS
  • January 8, 2016: Deadline to submit application and non-refundable ORPAS service and Institutional fees to ORPAS
  • January 15, 2016: Deadline to submit the dual application fee (for applicants applying to both Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy at McMaster University)
  • January 29, 2016: Deadline to submit transcripts from all universities the applicant has attended
  • Early April 2016: 300 top ranked applicants will be invited to participate in the Multiple Mini Interview Process
  • April 29, 30 & May 1, 2016: Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) will be conducted in person at McMaster University (Note: these cannot be rescheduled; please hold these dates in your calendar). Applicants are responsible for his/her travel costs.
  • May 20, 2016: Admission decisions will be emailed to applicants using the email address applicants submitted in their ORPAS online application.
  • June 3, 2016: First-round offers for OT and PT programs expire.
  • Early-Mid June, 2016: Deadline to submit payment of $500 non-refundable deposit
  • June 30, 2016: Deadline to submit final transcripts to ORPAS, with confirmation that your degree has been conferred (if applicable)

Interview

  • Approximately the top 300 ranked applicants are invited for a personal interview.
  • Applicants invited to be interviewed are notified approximately 3 weeks in advance of their interview.
  • Applicants who are interviewed are ranked on a combination of their pre admission sub-GPA (25% of final ranking) and their interview scores (75% of final ranking) to determine the final ranking for offers of admission.
  • Approximately 65 students are admitted to each of the OT and PT programs. The final approval of applicants for admission will be granted by the Associate Dean, School of Graduate Studies.
