  • Master’s : M.Sc. Occupational Therapy(OT)
    • 2 years in length
  • Master’s : M.Sc. Physiotherapy(PT)

Admissions Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

Requirements for Master's degree in Occupational Therapy Msc (OT) or Physiotherapy MSc (PT)

  • graduating from a 4-year baccalaureate degree (120 units/credits):
    • A minimum average of B or 75% or 3.0/4 or 8/12, calculated over the last 60 units of your university course work.
  • graduated from a 3-year baccalaureate degree (90 units/credits):
    • 3-year baccalaureate degree (90 units/credits)
    • plus an additional 30 units/credits to now total 120 units/credits in all
    • 18 units/credits must be at the fourth-year level or above.
    • A minimum average of B or 75% or 3.0/4 or 8/12, calculated over the last 60 units of your university course work.

In addition to the above requirements, the MSc (PT) degree requires:

  • A full or half credit in one biological or life science course with a grade of B or 75% or 3.0/4 or 8/12 or higher.
  • A full or half credit in one social science or humanities course with a grade of B or 75% or 3.0/4 or 8/12 or higher.

Requirements for International students

  • International students are defined as those who are not Canadian citizens or not Permanent Residents in Canada
  • Enrolment is limited to 6 in the Physiotherapy program
  • Criteria is identical to domestic students for international students graduating from a 3-year or a 4-year baccalaureate degree
  • One page Letter of Introduction/Statement of Interest
  • A Curriculum Vitae
  • TOEFL (if applicable)
    • In addition to the domestic student criteria, a score of at least 600 (written) or 250 (computer) or 92 (iBT) on the TOEFL test is required, if English is not the applicant’s first language
    • TOEFL scores that are more than 2 years old are not valid
  • Original Transcripts
  • Applicants with foreign transcripts (excluding the US) are required to submit original documents with notarized English copies of all degree course work

GPA

  • Minimum grade/GPA: 3.57 for OT and 3.76 for PT.
  • Applicants will be ranked on a combination of their pre admission sub-GPA (25% of final ranking) and their interview scores (75% of final ranking)

Timeline 2013-2014

  • January 10, 2014: Deadline to submit application to ORPAS
  • January 31, 2014: Deadline to submit all transcripts to ORPAS
  • Early April 2014: 300 top ranked applicants will be invited to participate in the Multiple Mini Interview Process
  • April 25, 26, and 27, 2014: Multiple Mini Interviews will be conducted in person at McMaster University (Note: these cannot be rescheduled; please hold these dates in your calendar)
  • May 16, 2014: Offers for MSc(OT) and MSc(PT) Programs will be emailed to top ranked candidates (using the email address applicants submitted in their ORPAS online application)
  • May 30, 2014: Deadline to respond to offers for admission, including payment of $500 non-refundable deposit to "hold a seat" for both firm and provisional acceptances
  • June 6, 2014: Provisional acceptances become firm
  • June 30, 2014: Deadline to submit final transcripts to ORPAS, with confirmation that your degree has been conferred (if applicable)

Interview

  • Approximately the top 300 ranked applicants are invited for a personal interview.
  • Applicants invited to be interviewed are notified approximately 3 weeks in advance of their interview.
  • Interviews dates for 2014: Friday, April 25/14, Saturday, April 26/14 and Sunday, April 27/14.
  • Applicants will be notified of the admissions decision on May 17, 2013.
