Admission Requirements
General Notes

  • Applicants must have an undergraduate degree
  • Applicants must have attended an accredited institution of postsecondary education, CLEP credits are not compatible
  • Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Criteria

Required classes:

  • Biology with Lab – one full year (8 semester hours)

AP credits invalid

  • General Chemistry with Lab – one full year (8 semester hours)

AP credits valid only if additional advanced chemistry course is taken

  • Organic Chemistry with Lab – one full year (8 semester hours)

1 semester of biochemistry with lab may be substituted for the 2nd semester of organic chemistry.

  • Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences
       at least 24 semester hours in these disciplines

  • Mathematics-Calculus or Statistics – one full year (6-8 semester hours)

AP credits acceptable for one semester of math requirement.

  • Physics with Lab – one full year (8 semester hours)

AP credits acceptable for requirements

  • It is highly recommended that students have a working knowledge of computers for communications and retrieving information. Individuals who have completed their studies in biology four years prior to their application are strongly advised to take one semester of advanced mammalian biology.

Supporting Documents

  • Applicants attending colleges with premedical advisors or committees are required to send letters from these sources.
  • Applicants attending colleges without premedical advisors or committees must send two letters of recommendation from senior faculty in science departments.
  • Applicants are invited to submit letters from additional faculty as well.

  • Note to applicants with a year or more of full-time employment or graduate studies: In addition to the required premedical letters, recommendations from supervisors or graduate faculty must also be submitted.



Deadlines

You must first apply to the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) by visiting their web site at www.aamc.org. Apply by October 15, 2008.
Applications for September, 2009 must be received by AMCAS no later than October 15, 2008.
The MD-PhD secondary application deadline is November 15, 2008
Regular MD secondary application deadline is December 1, 2008.
