Admission Requirements

General Notes

• JD Program:84 credits, 3 years to complete
• JD/LLM: 104 law credits, 3 years and 1 summer to complete.
• All other dual degree: 72 law credits + other non-law credits required to graduate.
• Even though paper application is available electronic application via LSAC is preferred.

Criteria

Required classes

• Bachelors degree in any field in a regionally accredited university.

GPA

• No cut-off GPA is listed, class of 2013 had a median GPA of 3.80.
• GPA 75/25 percentile: 3.90/3.68

Law School Admission Test (LSAT)

• All applicants must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).
• Provide the dates you sat or will sit for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).
• All applicants must take the LSAT no later than December 2009.
• Scores prior to June 2004 will not me accepted.
• Duke requires you to submit all LSAT score, and will tend to look at the average score unless you can provide a reason why your more recent score is higher, only then will greater weight be put on higher scores.
• If a score does not reflect your true ability, you may provide in an explanation in a separate attachment.
• Median LSAT score (class of 2013): 170
• LSAT score 75/25 percentile (class of 2013): 170/168

Supporting Documents

• Application Form completed and signed (this option is also available for electronic application)
• Personal statement - should include significant personal experiences beyond what is reflected in your transcripts and resume. Should also reflect your career and academic ambitions. No required length.
• Essay (optional).
  • Duke-specific Essay: describe why you why you want to attend law school and why you choose to apply to Duke.
  • Diversity Essay: reflect on how your life experiences and acquired perspectives would contribute to intellectual life at Duke.
• $70 application fee
• Two academic recommendation letter - should be written by professors who have personal knowledge of your academic ability and potential. If you have been out of school for some time, letters may be written by employers or others familiar with your personal traits and intellectual potential.
• Resumé - All honors and rewards should be included, as well as dates. No required length.

Admission

• Reviewing process starts in October.
• Decisions made on a rolling basis; most admissions made before March 1. Therefore it is suggested to apply as soon as possible.
• All decisions finalized by end of April.

• Application become available in august and may be submitted from the 1st of September 2010.
• The application deadline for JD candidates is February 15, 2011.
• Candidates are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
• Early decision deadlines are November 5th, 2010 (Round I) and January 7th, 2011 (Round II).
