Admission Requirements
General Notes
- Admitted students matriculate in the fall semester on a full-time basis only
- Decisions are based on intellectual potential, academic achievement, character, community involvement and work experience
- Special awards and honours, work experience, extracurricular and community activity as well as competitiveness of school and major are taken into consideration for applications
- Factors other than undergraduate grades and LSAT scores may be significant for applicants who have experienced educational or socio-economic disadvantages
- Candidates’ applications require significant comparison with applicant pool as a whole before final decision can be reached
- Applications may be filed electronically through LSDAS or by paper

- Close attention is given to the following factors in an undergraduate transcript: trends in applicant’s grades, class rank, ratio of pass/fail to graded courses, diversity and depth of course work, length of time since graduation
- Undergraduate GPA of admitted students in fall 2006: 3.9/3.6 (75thpercentile / 25th %)
LSAT
- No index or cut-off
- All applicants for admission to the J.D. program are required to complete the LSAT
- Oldest LSAT score accepted is from October 2001 (6 years ago)
- LSDAS Report will be requested, that includes: academic transcripts, LSAT score and a writing sample
- LSAT score of admitted students in fall 2006: 172/168 (75th % / 25th %)

Supporting Documents
- $85 fee for electronic application, $100 for paper application
- Résumés or additional sheets (optional)
- 1 letter of recommendation
- The LSAC Letter of Recommendation (LOR) Service is preferred
- Recommendations may be sent to the applicant (to be included in the application) or directly to NYU’s School of Law
- Some scholarship applications require at least one additional recommendation
- Personal statement
- For including additional information: reasons for application, clarifying responses on the application form, or noting any special circumstances
- Content and length is decided by applicant
- Some scholarship applications require autobiographical essays or other additional essays in addition to the personal statement
- Transcripts: Foreign transcripts must be submitted through the LSAC J.D. Credential Assembly Service

Interview
- The Committee on Admissions does not interview candidates
- The personal statement provides an opportunity for an applicant to supplement the information provided in the application
Admission
- Applicants who apply for early decision but do not meet the deadline will automatically have their applications considered for regular admission
- For early decision admission is binding, and applicants may not apply for another binding early decision program
- Once admitted for the binding early decision, enrolment is mandatory and withdrawal of applications at other law schools is immediately required
- Early decision applicants will be notified by the end of December of their application decision
- Regular applicants will be notified by late April of their application decision
- Final decisions for those placed on the wait list may not be made until late summer

Tuition
- Tuition for 2007-2008 school year: $40,890 US
- 2007-2008 federal student expense budget: $64,460 US (includes tuition, health/registration/computer fees, room and board, a basic health insurance plan and books and supplies)
- Budget governs total amount of aid that is available to student in any given year; students may not borrow in excess of the approved budget, unless special circumstances have been approved by the Office of Student Financial Services
