Program Information

  • There are four programs: MPT, MSc (PT), MPT/PhD, and MClSc
    • Only the MPT is a professional program; the other three are research programs.
    • This article focuses on admission requirements for the MPT and MSc (PT) programs.

  • 50 spaces each year for the MPT program, open only to citizens or permanent residents of Canada

Admissions Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements (MPT)

  • Four year baccalaureate degree in any discipline from a college or university
  • Required Courses
    • Human/Mammal/Vertebrate Physiology with a minimum grade of B (3 credits)
      • Courses with an "and" in its name e.g. "Human Anatomy and Physiology" will only count as 1.5 credits.
    • Science - 6 credits of the following:
      • Biology
      • Physics
      • Chemistry
      • Courses in Anatomy, Biomechanics, Human Biology, and Science for non-Science students will not count
    • Statistics or Research Methods (3 credits)
    • Social Science e.g. Anthropology (3 credits)
    • English or Writing (e.g. EAPR 250) with an essay component (3 credits)
    • Arts and Humanities (3 credits)
      • You may not use a 6-credit English/Writing course to fulfill both the Arts/Humanities and English/Writing categories

Work and Volunteer Experience

  • 50 hours minimum working or volunteering with persons experiencing cognitive or physical difficulties

GPA

MPT

  • Based on the last 60 credits completed as of December 31 of the application cycle.
    • Admissions will calculate GPA starting with final fall grades, and count backwards from there based on the chronological order indicated on the applicant's transcript.
    • If the last few courses needed to fulfill the 60-credit total do not comprise an entire semester (e.g. 3 out of 5 courses of 2nd year Winter), the average of the entire year is taken.
  • Includes summer, part-time, and failed courses, in addition to courses taken after the four-year degree is completed.
  • Does not include S/U courses, practicums, activity-type courses, or courses taken as a graduate student

MSc (PT)

  • Minimum 70% average (3.0) in last two full undergraduate years

TOEFL

MPT

  • Minimum scores:
    • Paper-based: 620
    • Internet-based: 105
    • Computer-based: 260
  • Other accepted minimum scores:
    • IELTS: 8

MSc (PT)

  • Minimum TOEFL scores are same as above
  • Other accepted minimum scores:
    • MELAB: 88 overal, no mark less than 80
    • IELTS: 7

Residency Requirements

  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada.

Interview

  • There is no interview

Documentation

MPT

  • Statement indicating completion of 50 hours volunteering or working (paid) with individuals who are struggling at a cognitive or physical level.
    • Form available as a PDF file in the ORPAS application package
  • Two reference letters
    • ORPAS has R1 and R2 forms online for this very purpose
    • One must be an academic reference, the other must be the individual/organization under whom you worked to attain the 50 hours of experience
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed.

MSc (PT)

  • Letter of intent
  • CV (including academic/professional background, contact information, references)
    • References are collected electronically upon receipt of application
  • For applicants who did not graduate from UWO, one transcript from each insitution attended is required. These must be sent electronically from each institution.

Deadlines

  • Applications must be submitted through ORPAS by January 8, 2010
    • Also applies for reference forms
  • Application fee is $255 plus $75 for every university choice after the first.
  • ORPAS transcript processing fee is $10 per transcript. Transcripts must be received by January 29, 2010.
  • Transcripts must come directly from the school.

Tuition

  • Yearly flat tuition rate of $4,653.00
  • Student fees include athletic fee, recreation fee, student services fee, GSA activity fee, GSA health and vision insurance, and GSA dental insurance. These add up to around $500 a year.
  • Additional costs may include books, housing/food, local transportation.
  • Check website for possible scholarship opportunities.

  • Must provide immunization record, be immunized for TB, and acquire OESS/VSS screening once admitted
  • Two year program, including spring/summer terms

  • Three placements
    • Junior (Spring/Summer of Year 1): 6 weeks
    • Junior-Intermediate (Fall of Year 2): 6 weeks
    • Intermediate-Senior, Senior, Professional Consolidation (Spring/Summer of Year 2): 18 weeks
    • If placement is outside the London area, funding of up to $750/placement (or up to $1500 for all three placements) is available
    • Otherwise, travel and accommodation costs are paid entirely by the student.
    • Graded under pass/fail scheme
