Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: BSc Honours degree (4-years)

GPA

  • University minimum: B- (aprox. to a 2.7 GPA or 70%)
  • Degree Minimum: B (aprox. 3.0 GPA or 75%)
    • Applicants who meet the university minimum but not the degree minimum may be considered for provisional status (requires applicants to obtain at least two ‘B’s during the first two semesters of graduate study in order to continue the program)
  • Calculation method:
    • The minimum listed above is the average of the applicant’s last two years of undergraduate study

Supporting Documents

All documents must be packaged and mailed directly to the Department

  • Certified transcripts – sealed and signed by the official issuing the transcript
  • Letters of reference – two or three required
  • Statement of Research interest – one-page outlining the applicant’s major research interests and personal objectives
  • English language proficiency scores – required only if applicant’s first language is not English (TOEFL, IELTS, MELAB, CAEL scores are accepted)

Deadlines

  • Applications are accepted all year
  • Semesters begin in the Fall, Winter, and Summer
  • Processing and consideration time will take aprox. 6-8 weeks.
  • For international students, it is recommended to allow at least 6 months to have enough time to receive authorization to study in Canada.

Tuition and Funding

  • Application fee - $75
  • Canadian full-time - $2,745.17
  • International full-time - $6,549.17
  • Other university fees - $210.09 (Athletics, Health services etc.)
  • Student organization fees - $345.08

  • Guaranteed annual stipend (Canadian student) - $16,500 ; Graduate Research assistanship (GRA)
  • Guaranteed annual stipend (International student) - $16,800 (GRA)
    • GRA support is offered at the discretion of the advisor(s)
    • Applicants holding a scholarship greater than the stipend sum are not granted GRA support.
