Master’s Program

• Degree: Either one of the following:

1. Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate domain
2. Doctorate in Medicine (MD)
3. Doctorate in Dentistry (DMD)
4. Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DMV)
5. A diploma considered equivalent to the above

PhD Program

• Degree: Either one of the following:

1. Master’s degree in Microbiology & Immunology
2. Master’s degree in a domain deemed appropriate
3. An education considered equivalent to the above

Master’s Program

• Minimum: 3.0 out of 4.3 (or the equivalent) in the Bachelor’s program

PhD Program

• Minimum: 3.3 out of 4.3 (or the equivalent) in the Master’s program
  • Minimum: 3.7 out of 4.3 for those transferring directly from a Bachelor’s degree to the PhD degree

Supporting Documents

• Copy of the applicant’s transcript with final marks included.
• Bachelor’s diploma (to enter the Master’s program) or Master’s diploma (to enter the PhD program)
• Course description of all courses taken that were required for the diploma
• Applicants applying directly from a Bachelor’s program into the PhD program are required to provide two letters of reference.

Other Requirements

• Possess good knowledge of French (written and spoken)
• Possess good knowledge of English, and of another language if it is significantly important to know it for their program. English knowledge is important since a lot of pieces of work are published in this language.
• The Dean may ask for a French knowledge test if the candidate’s mother tongue is not French. If the candidate fails the test, he/she is either disqualified from the program or may be asked to write a different test.
• Students before entering their first year should consult with University staff members to discover research projects that are happening in the Department and must select a potential thesis advisor and have their advisor selected by the end of their first semester.

• Applicants born outside of Canada:
  • Applicants with Canadian Citizen status: A copy of your Canadian citizenship card
  • Applicants with Permanent Resident status: A copy of the IMM1000 or IMM5292 (Emploi et Immigration Canada) forms
  • Applicants with a Study Permit: A copy of your study permit, health insurance and the Certificat d’acceptation du Québec if taking more than 12 credits. Click here for more information
• Applicants that need to prove their status as a Quebec Resident:
  • Applicants born in Quebec: A copy of your birth certificate
  • Aboriginal applicants living in Quebec, one of the following is required:

1. A letter signed by an authority of the Conseil de bande stating that you or your parents are living on the reserve in Quebec
2. An official list of the members of the Conseil de bande that includes your name
3. For beneficiaries of the Baie James Convention, a card given out by the Makivik Society or the Grand Council of the Crees that shows your beneficiary number.

• If you are unable to fulfill one of the 3 ways mentioned above, you may do one of the following:

1. Present a Certificat de Sélection du Québec (CSQ) or an official letter from the Ministère des Relations avec les citoyens et de l’immigration du Québec stating that you hold a CSQ
