Academic Requirements

  • MSc/MA
    • Degree:
      • MA: undergraduate degree in geography or a related social science
      • MSc: B.Sc. in Geography or a related discipline
    • Undergraduate cGPA of 3.25
  • PhD
    • Degree: normally an M.A. or M.Sc. in Geography or a related discipline (however, it is possible to enter the Ph.D. program without a prior graduate degree)
      • Students admitted to the Ph.D. program without an appropriate background may be required to make up specified courses

    • Application fee: $90 (students with Canadian transcripts) or $125 (students with international transcripts), paid by credit card (Master Card or Visa)

    • International applicants must provide both original language transcripts and degree certificate, and certified English translations

    • Entry in the January semester is possible under special circumstances in the PhD program

Late applications are possible, but access to funding (scholarships, TA positions, etc.) may be limited or unavailable.

Tuition 2018-2019

  • Full-time fee: $1,871.33 (per term)
  • Continuing fee: $935.67 (per term)
    • Tuition for Master’s students drops by 50% after six semesters, and after eight semesters for Doctoral students

Funding

  • First-year funding (amounts include TAships):
    • Master's students: averages ~$18,800
    • Doctoral students: averages ~$20,900
  • Funding comes in the form of some combination of:
    • Teaching Assistantships,
    • Graduate Fellowships,
    • Research Assistantships, and/or
    • Scholarship funding (internal and external)
  • Limited major entrance scholarships for exceptional applicants (to be nominated, you are strongly encouraged to submit your application by mid-January)
