Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Undergraduate degree from an accredited university.
  • Required Courses:
    • General Biology: 2 semesters
    • Biological Sciences: A minimum of 4 semesters with at least one laboratory. Additional classes include:
      • Additional Biochemistry
      • Additional Physiology and/or Anatomy
      • Animal reproduction
      • Cell Biology
      • Cell Physiology
      • Epidemiology
      • Histology
      • Immunology
      • Microbiology
      • Parasitology
      • Virology
    • Physics: 2 semesters with laboratories
    • General Chemistry
    • Organic Chemistry
    • Biochemistry
    • Animal Nutrition

    • Mathematics:
      • A course or course sequence in college level algebra and trigonometry.
    • Physiology
    • Statistics
  • General Education Prerequisites:

GPA

  • Average GPA of admitted students: 3.60
  • All prerequisite courses taken after August 2004 must be graded on an A-F scale and not taken as pass/fail.
  • Any grade below C- in a prerequisite course is considered unsatisfactory and the course cannot be accepted to fulfill a requirement.

GRE

  • Minimum score: N/A but applicants are expected to have competitive results.

Interview

  • If you are selected for an interview, you will be notified approximately two weeks prior to the actual interview, which usually occurs in mid to late February.
  • If you are a nonresident, you will not be interviewed but will be evaluated and ranked by all other areas as listed in Student Selection Criteria.

Timeline 2013-2014

  • June 2013: Application materials available from VMCAS
  • June 2013: OSU CVM Supplemental Application available from OSU CVM website
  • October 1, 2013 12:00 p.m. (EST): Deadline for receipt of all application materials
  • January - February 2014 9 p.m. (EST): Deadline to file Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if financial aid is needed
  • January 2014: Deadline for submission of Fall term grades to OSU CVM
  • February 2014: Oregon resident interviews
  • February-March 2014: Initial offers of admission
