Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Required for application to both programs:
    • An appropriate four-year University of Toronto bachelor's degree, or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Degree: Master’s Program
    • a four-year bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized university
  • Degree: Doctor’s Program
    • Master’s degree or equivalent
    • or a four-year bachelor’s degree with minimum GPA requirement
      • At least B+ in the final two years of undergraduate study or an A - (or first class standing) in the final two years of undergraduate study (for direct entry into the PhD program
  • Recommended Courses:
    • Immunology, Biochemistry, Molecular biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics (calculus)

GPA

  • Master’s Program
    • Minimum GPA: 3.3 during the last two years of undergraduate study
  • Doctor’s Program
    • MSc degree with course grades of at least B+ or
    • Minimum A - (i.e. first class standing) in the final two years of undergraduate study for direct entry into the PhD program

International Students

  • Applicants educated outside Canada must submit GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores.
    • Recommended to be generally above 80th percentile
  • Applicants whose primary language is not English must submit TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
    • Minimum requirement is 96/120 for an overall score and 22/30 for both writing and speaking.
