Program Information
- Master of Science (M.Sc) – 2 streams
- Regular research master’s involving a mix of research and coursework – usually completed in one year and guaranteed funding for at least one year
- Coursework Program – required to finish in five years, but a full-time student can finish within one year. Not guaranteed funding
- Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc)
- a formal written thesis required
- Intended for focus-research in geosciences
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
- guaranteed funding for four years or five years for direct-entry students
Admission Requirements
Course and Degree Requirements
- Degree: an Ontario honours B.Sc degree or B.A.Sc degree or equivalent (McGill’s B.Sc. degree) for either M.Sc or Ph.D. degree
- It is recommended that students directly contact potential research supervisors to discuss graduate research BEFORE application

- Minimum final year GPA of 3.0 for M.Sc.
- Minimum CGPA of 3.3 for Ph.D direct-entry

- TOEFL is required for students whose primary language is not English and graduated from a non-Canadian university where the language of instruction and examination was NOT English
- Minimum scores: 237 CBT, 580 PBT, 93 iBT (minimum of 22 for Writing and Speaking)
