Admission Requirements

General Notes

  • Minimum = 90 semester or 135 quarter units must be completed prior to entrance
  • Baccalaureate degree not required, but recommended
  • Official transcripts of each higher education institution attended must be sent to both PharmCAS and USC School of Pharmacy
  • Four year program leading to a PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy)
  • 185 applicants matriculated from 1300-1600 applications each year.
  • Numerous dual degree, joint degree and certificate programs offered

Criteria

Required classes

  • 1 semester/2 quarters in Calculus
  • One course in Statistics – Business statistics is not acceptable
  • 2 semesters (including lab) in General Chemistry
  • 2 semesters (including lab) in Organic Chemistry
  • 2 semesters (including lab) in Physics
  • 2 semesters (including lab) in Biology
  • 1 course (including lab) in Microbiology
  • 1 course (including lab) in Mammalian Physiology – Human Physiology with lab preferred
  • 1 course in Molecular Biology
  • 1 course in Biochemistry
  • 2 semesters/3 quarters in expository writing
  • 1 course in Interpersonal Communication
  • 1 course in general psychology or general sociology
  • 1 course in either economics – microeconomics is preferred
  • (*)1 semester/2 quarters in Additional Social and Behavioral Sciences
  • (*)1 semester/2 quarters in Additional Humanities
  • (*)Applies only to those applying without Bachelor degrees

GPA

  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of application
  • Average entering GPA for was 3.5

Supporting Documents

  • 2 letters of recommendation, to be submitted online
    • One letter from a faculty member, the second from a person who can best describe your capabilities and potential for a pharmacy education/career
  • Resume must be included in Supplemental Application

Application

Interviews

  • Applicants will be notified two to three weeks prior to the interview
  • Assesses oral communication skills, writing skills, leadership ability, and motivation to be a pharmacist
  • Consists of two parts: an oral interview and a writing test
  • Interviews held during specific dates from November to March

Deadlines for Fall 2009 Admission

  • June 1, 2008 – Application became available on PharmCAS
  • Nov. 1, 2008 – Application must be submitted through PharmCAS. USC Supplemental Application must also be submitted.
  • Nov. 2008 to Mar. 2009 – Interviews are held
  • Four to Five weeks after interview date – applicants notified by mail of their admittance

Tuition

  • 2007-2008 Tuition Fees:
  • Per semester (15-18 units) - 18,086.00
  • Per unit, For less than 15 units and each unit above 18 units - 1,206.00
  • Mandatory medical fees not included
