Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

  • Masters Degree
    • A four-year honors degree, or equivalent, from a recognized college or university in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study.
    • A three-year first cycle undergraduate degree, in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study, from a European intuition that meets the criteria set forth in the Bologna **Declaration, will be acceptable as the equivalent of an undergraduate honours degree.
    • A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (U of S grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study (i.e. 60 credit units).
    • Demonstrated ability for independent thought, advanced study, and research.
  • Ph.D. Degree
    • A Master's degree, or equivalent, from a recognized university in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study; under no circumstances may a prospective student holding a **Bachelor's degree be admitted directly into a Ph.D. program.
    • A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (U of S grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study (i.e. coursework required in Master's program).
    • Demonstrated ability for independent thought, advanced study, and research.
  • Postgraduate Diploma
    • A four-year honors degree, or equivalent, from a recognized college or university in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study.
    • A cumulative weighted average of at least 65% (U of S grade system equivalent) in each of the final two years (i.e. 60 credit units) of the undergraduate program.
  • Non-degree Student
    • A four-year honours degree, or the equivalent, from a recognized college or university in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study or from a professional college with specialization in some subject or discipline comparable to that required for an Honours BA/BSc from this University.
    • A cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (U of S grade system equivalent) in each of the final two years (i.e. 60 credit units)of the undergraduate program, or equivalent at the graduate level.
    • The goal of obtaining permission to take a small number of graduate courses (to a maximum 9 credit units) for professional reasons and not to work toward a postgraduate diploma or degree; in no case will courses done on a non-degree basis in order to meet entrance requirements to a graduate program be accepted subsequently for credit. The non-degree category is not intended as a way to short-cut or bypass the admissions process.

Other

  • If your first language is not English, then TOEFL scores must also be submitted.
  • If you have already successfully completed a degree in an English speaking country, your English language requirement will be considered fulfilled.
