  • Microbiology & Immunology
  • Master of Science (MSc) – 1 year minimum full-time (3 sessions)

Course and Degree Requirements

Master’s Program
  • Degree: An Honours undergraduate degree in a similar type of program. Applicants with a degree in Medicine (MD), Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or some other professional degree may apply only if they have completed two years of undergraduate studies prior to their professional program or have done some research.
PhD Program
  • Degree: A Master’s degree completed with a thesis in Microbiology, Immunology or a similar subject
    • Some students may be able to fast-track their Master’s by only completing it in 1 to 1.5 years in which they are awarded a “Mini Masters”.

    • If the student does not take many Master’s courses, two years of undergraduate studies may be included in the GPA calculation.

Other Requirements

  • Students before entering their first year (and even before submitting an application) should consult with University staff members to discover research projects that are happening in the Department and must select a potential thesis advisor.
  • Proof of English proficiency if the applicant did not complete their studies in Canada or an English speaking country. The applicant will to complete either of the following tests and need the following minimum scores and have them sent to the School of Graduate Studies:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):
      • Paper-based test: 600
      • Computer-based test: 250
      • Internet-based test: 100
        • TOEFL scores require a 4.5 score in the Test of Written English (TWE)
    • Similar scores in other tests of English proficiency
    • Completion of a degree done in English
    • Long-lasting residence as well job employment done in English
