Admission Requirements

General Notes

  • Four year program leading to a Pharm.D.
  • Also offers Ph.D. programs in Medical Chemistry and Pharmaceutics
  • Program is available at both the Duluth and Twin Cities Campuses
  • College ranked 3rd in the United States by US News and World Report
  • In Fall 2008, 167 students (8 international) out of 1124 applicants were admitted

Criteria

Required classes

  • 1 course = 3 semester credits (must obtain a C- or better)
  • Biology
    • 1 course general biology with lab
    • 1 course microbiology with lab
    • 1 course in human anatomy with lab
  • 1 course in calculus
  • Chemistry
    • General chemistry (enough to satisfy organic chemistry pre-requisite)
    • full sequence of organic chemistry
  • Entire introductory physics sequence
  • 2 courses in sociology or psychology
  • 2 courses in English composition
  • 1 course in economics
  • 1 course in public speaking
  • In addition, applicants must complete 30 semester credits in “general education” (i.e. non-science, non-mathematics, non-professional, non-physical education)
    • sociology, psychology, composition, and public speaking credits may count towards this requirement
  • Advance standing credits are accepted
  • Completion of B.A. is not required

GPA

  • Minimum GPA is 3.00, or 3.20 for the last 60 credits
  • In Fall 2008, average entering GPA was 3.58

PCAT

  • Applicants must write the Pharmacy College Admission Test
  • Applicants must arrange for their results to be send to PharmCAS
  • Average entering composite % was 80% for Fall 2008

Timeline for Fall 2009 Admission

  • Admissions are made on a rolling basis - it is better to apply early
  • August 2008 – Application through PharmCAS becomes available
  • October 24, November 21, January 16, February 6, February 20, and March 6 – Interview dates
  • Feb. 19 2009 – Deadline for submission of supplemental application

  • For non-residents of Minnesota/Wisconsin, tuition and fees were 32 816 USD for 2008-2009
