Admission Requirements

General

  • Online application available at: www.uoguelph.ca/graduatestudies/

Academic Requirements

  • BSc Honours in Plant Science or Biology
  • Minimum B average during the last 2 full years of undergraduate study
  • In exceptional cases (students with high academic standing and research potential which may be furthered to the PhD level), MSc students may transfer to the PhD program
  • Exceptional students may also transfer directly from a BSc Honours to the PhD program

Financial Requirements

  • Annual sub-total for full-time domestic students: $6,491.00 (includes tuition and compulsory fees such as Dental Plan, Drug Plan, Athletic fee, etc.)
  • Estimated annual cost of living for domestic students: $18,091.00 to $23,066.00 (includes sub-total from above and cost of living expenses)

Documents

  • Hard copy of the online application, to be mailed to the department’s Admissions Secretary
  • Statement of Research Interest and Career/Graduate Study Goals
  • 2 letters of reference
  • 1 certified copy of each previous undergraduate and/or graduate transcript
  • Application fee of $85
  • Proof of English Proficiency (if not a Canadian Citizen): TOEFL, IELTS, MELAB, CAEL scores are accepted

  • Research fields include: Crop Management and Physiology, Crop Breeding and Genetics, Crop Biotechnology

Deadlines

  • Applications are accepted all year
  • Semesters begin in the first weeks of January, May, and September
  • Processing and consideration time for applications takes around 6 weeks
  • Applications should be submitted approx. 6 months prior to the semester of desired entry
