Admission Requirements

General Notes

  • Minimum of 92 quarter units or 62 semester units of university study required for admission
  • Four year program leading to a PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy)
  • 3 pathways of study available
    • Pharmaceutical Care
    • Pharmaceutical Heath Policy and Management
    • Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Students may apply to enter the PharmD-MPH (Master of Public Health) program at UC-Berkley in their 4th year

Criteria

Required classes

  • 12 quarter units are required in each of the following:
    • General chemistry (1 year lecture + lab)
  • *Organic chemistry (1 year lecture + lab)
    • Biology (1 lab)
  • 4 quarter units in physiology
  • 8 quarter units in physics (must include lab in electricity/magnetism)
  • 8 quarter units in mathematics (must include 2 calculus courses)
  • 8 quarter units in English (must include 2 college level composition courses)
  • 28 quarter units in humanities electives – must include:
    • 1 course in economics
    • 1 course in public speaking / debate
    • 1 course in psychology / sociology / cultural anthropology

GPA

  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.80 at the time of application
  • Average entering GPA for 2007 was 3.58
  • Lowest entering GPA for 2007 was 2.92

Supporting Documents

  • 3 or 4 recommendations, to be submitted online
    • One recommendation must be from someone familiar with applicant’s college/university work
  • If chosen for interview, must submit course descriptions of all pre-requisite courses from the institution at which they were taken


Other

  • Must be proficient in the use of various computer applications
  • A criminal background check may be required later in the program


Application

  • Apply online through Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS)
  • Must also complete supplemental application form, to be submitted by mail


Interviews

  • Interviews conducted by a Faculty member and a senior pharmacy student
  • Assess communications skills, knowledge and motivation
  • Interviewees will also be required to write a 45-minute essay to evaluate writing skills

Deadlines for Fall 2009 Admission

  • June 1, 2008 – Application became available on PharmCAS
  • Nov. 1, 2008 – References must be submitted through PharmCAS
  • Nov. 3, 2008 – Must submit PharmCAS application by midnight
  • Nov. 3, 2008 – Mailed supplemental applications must be post-marked by this date
  • Mid-Dec. 2008 – Interview invitations go out
  • Late Jan. to mid-Feb. 2009 – Interviews are held
  • April 1, 2009 – Final admission decisions all mailed by this time


Tuition

  • 2008-2009 Annual Tuition Fees:
    • California resident = 23 421.00 USD
    • Non-California resident = 35 666.00 USD
