Admission Requirements

General

Academic Requirements

MSc with Canadian or US credentials

  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree
  • B+ average in 3rd and 4th year courses
    • OR, 12 credits of 3rd or 4th year courses in the A- range (UBC 80%) in the field of study (i.e. botany)
  • Sufficient academic background for graduate work
  • English language proficiency

PhD with Canadian or US credentials

  • Master’s degree with overall average of B+ (UBC 76%)
  • Sufficient academic background for graduate work
  • English language proficiency
  • Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of Master’s study with 12 credits of first class average. Nine credits must be at the 500-level or above and 9 credits must be of first class standing. Applicants must have clear evidence of research ability/potential.
  • Direct admission is available for applicants with a honours bachelor’s degree with an overall average of A and who demonstrates research ability/potential.
  • International applicants should consult the UBC Graduate Programs website for country-specific requirements.

Financial Requirements

MSc

  • Full-time, domestic: $3,939.16 per year
  • Part-time, domestic: $6,753.96 per year
  • Full-time, international: $7,200 per year
  • Part-time, international: $12,420 per year

PhD

  • Full-time, domestic: $7,878.30 per year
  • Full-time, international: $14,440 per year
