Admission Requirements

General

- Apply online at http://www.grad.ubc.ca/apply/online/index.asp

- TOEFL and GRE is not required from applicants from recognized Canadian universities


Academic Requirements

MSc

· Minimum: 4 year BSc. or BScH, knowledgeable in organic and physical chemistry beyond the introductory level, introductory biochemistry course, introductory biochemistry lab course, and 2 advanced biochemistry courses. Courses in genetics, physics, microbiology, and biology are recommended.

· Canadian applicants: overall average of B+ and A in 12 credits of relevant 3rd and 4th year courses

· International applicants: 4 year undergraduate degree comparable to a UBC degree

· advanced experience in a biochemistry research environment


PhD

· direct entry: same as MSc with first class average in each semester of undergraduate coursework as well as advanced research experience

· OR, Master’s degree with 12-15 months of laboratory research, 1-3 graduate level courses, written thesis, and oral presentation/examination

o MSc

§ Full-time, domestic: $3,939.16 per year

§ Part-time, domestic: $6,753.96 per year

§ Full-time, international: $7,200 per year

§ Part-time, international: $12,420 per year

o PhD

§ Full-time, domestic: $7,878.30 per year

§ Full-time, international: $14,440 per year

- 2 copies of your transcript

- 3 letters of recommendation

- 0.5 to 1 page letter of proposed research area and career goals

- TOEFL scores (minimum: 625 paper-based, 263 computer-based), if required

- GRE (should be in the 80-100% range)

- PhD applicants must submit a statement of their research interests and reasons for pursuing advanced study
