Program Information

  • Master’s Program – a minimum of 12 semester hours of courses
    • You must have a supervisor that is willing to accept you
    • at least four courses, either from Earth Sciences graduate course offerings or from related graduate course offerings in other departments.
    • may include up to 6 credit hours of special topics or directed studies courses.
    • must complete and successfully defend a written research thesis for completion of the degree
  • Doctor’s Program - a minimum of 15 semester hours of courses
    • must complete Oral Candidacy Examination
    • can transfer from MSc to PhD

  • Degree: a bachelor’s of science degree in an honours program in the Earth Sciences (geology, geological engineering, geophysics, geomorphology, soil science, or physical geography)

  • Minimum GPA: 3.0 for Master’s program, 3.5 for Doctor’s program

  • Required for international students
  • iBT – 88 with a minimum of 20 in each category, or PBT – 570, or CBT - 230

  • One-page statement of your research interests and career goals.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • A minimum of three referees willing to complete a formal letter of reference. At least two of the referees should be academics
