Program Information

  • New! Masters Fast Track (B.Sc. and M.Sc.)
    • Thesis based, 5 years, 4 (Bachelors) + 1 (Masters)
    • The complements you take for your honors Bachelors overlap with the recquired Masters Classes.
  • Masters (M.Sc.) Degree
    • Thesis based, 1-2 years
    • Course work and significant research components
  • Ph.D. Degree
    • 4-5 years with training for independent research
    • Students can apply directly with only B.Sc.

Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • B.Sc. Major/Honours in Chemistry or related fields such as Physics of Biochemistry.
  • Required cGPA above 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Supporting Documents

  • 2 letters of recommendation, not more than 6 months old, preferably from academic or professional employers
  • 2 official copies of all university transcripts
    • Students graduating from the McGill Department of Chemistry do not need to submit these, a simple print out from Minerva is sufficient
  • Proof of English Proficiency for international students who have not received their instruction in English
    • TOEFL minimum scores
      • Paper based: 577
      • Computer based: 233
      • iBt: 90 (at least 20 in each section)
  • General and Subject Chemistry GREs – international students may be asked to write the general and advance chemistry GRE tests.

Tuition 2009-2010

  • Master’s
    • International - $15,000 for 1st year
    • Canadian Outside QC - $7,100 for 1st year
    • Quebec Residents - $3,500 for 1st year
  • PhD
    • Tuition $3,500 as reduced by MIDAs financial awards for international students
  • Graduate Stipends, fellowships, and teaching assistantships are available
