Program Information

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
  • 6 years in length:
    • 4 years of undergraduate study (preprofessional)
    • 2 years of graduate study
      • Students may enter the professional phase of the program in the Fall semester only.
      • Students completing the Doctor of Pharmacy program do not earn a baccalaureate degree after completing the program or prior to beginning the graduate-level phase of the program.

  • Required Preprofessional courses:
    • General Chemistry (with lab): 1 year
    • General Biology (with lab): 1 year
    • English Composition: 1 semester
    • Precalculus: 1 semester
    • Calculus: 1 semester
    • Speech: 1 semester
    • Organic Chemistry (with lab): 1 year
    • Physics for Pharmacy: 1 semester
    • English Literature: 1 year
    • History or Philosophy elective: 1 semester
    • Introduction to Psychology: 1 semester
    • Human Anatomy: 1 semester
    • Micro-or-Macro-Economics: 1 semester

GPA

  • Minimum GPA: 3.0 (4.0 scale) for cumulative, science, and mathematics.
    • Note: Applicants are expected to have completed prerequisite course to the best of their abilities.

  • All applicants should submit the following:
    • A mandatory electronic application must be submitted via The Pharmacy College Application Service.
    • Long Island University Brooklyn Campus Supplemental Application which is available here.
    • Transcripts and Credential Evaluations
    • Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) and other exams
      • Note: Other exams include 1) Advanced Placement (AP), 2) International Baccalaureate (IB) , and 3) College Level Examination Program (CLEP).

Interview

  • Personal interviews will be required for selected candidates only.
  • An invitation for interview does not guarantee admission to the professional program.
  • Interviews are scheduled to take place throughout the months of February and March.

  • Feb/Mar, 2013 - Interview invitation
  • March/April, 2013 - admission decision released
