Admission Requirements

General

  • Apply through either Waterloo or Guelph (joint program): applicant’s choice of advisor will determine at which campus he or she studies
  • Online application available at: www.uoguelph.ca/graduatestudies/

Academic Requirements

  • BSc Honours degree
  • Minimum 75% average (B+) over the last 4 semesters
  • For the PhD program, direct entrance is possible for BSc Honours graduates with a first class standing (A average)

Financial Requirements

  • Annual sub-total for full-time domestic students: $6,491.00 (includes tuition and compulsory fees such as Dental Plan, Drug Plan, Athletic fee, etc.)
  • Estimated annual cost of living for domestic students: $18,091.00 to $23,066.00 (includes sub-total from above and cost of living expenses)

Documents

  • 2-3 letters of recommendation
  • Statement of Research Interest and Career Goals
  • 1 certified copy of each previous undergraduate and/or graduate transcript
  • Application fee of $85
  • Proof of English Proficiency (if not a Canadian Citizen): TOEFL, IELTS, MELAB, CAEL scores are accepted

Other

  • Foreign educated applicants may be required to write the GRE and will be informed of it upon their application
  • Master’s co-op program is available: same academic requirements as the regular Master’s program, but not open to those who have done co-op during their undergraduate career
  • PhD co-op program is also available: first class BSc Honours applicants (minimum overall “A” average) are especially encouraged to apply
