Admissions Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

• Degree: Bachelor's degree not required, but recommended
• Required Courses - survey courses are not accepted.
  • Calculus I (3-4 credits = one semester)
  • Statistics (3-4 credits = one semester)
  • General Chemistry including lab (8 credits = 2 semesters)
  • Organic Chemistry including lab (8 credits = 2 semesters)
  • General Biology including lab (8 credits = 2 semesters )
  • Biochemistry (4-10 credits depending on course description of current institute)
  • Microbiology including lab (4 credits = one semester)
  • Microeconomics (3 credits = one semester)
  • English composition (6-8 credits)
    • English composition requirements may be fulfilled by taking two English composition courses or one English composition course and two Writing-Intensive course
  • Interpersonal Communications/Public Speaking (3 credits = one semester)
  • Humanities Electives (3 credits = one semester)
    • Examples: Art and Art History, Speech Communications, Dance, Theatre, Music, Foreign languages)
  • Social Science Electives (3 credits = one semester)
    • Examples: Anthropology, History, Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology

• In-province/domestic students:

PCAT

• Minimum scores: 60th percentile or greater in Chemistry and 25th precentile or greater in other areas of the PCAT
• Applicants must take the PCAT within two years prior to admission to the program
• The School of Pharmacy will not accept any other admission test (MCAT, GRE, etc...)
• PCAT scores must be sent to PharmCAS, not the University of Washington.

• The School of Pharmacy only accepts/requires two recommendations, one from an academic source and one from a professional source.
  • Academic sources include: professors or teaching assistants who have directly interacted with the applicant at a university level, university/college academic advisors
  • Professional sources include: employers or volunteer organization personnel with whom the applicant has directly worked
• Official, sealed transcript from all colleges, universities, etc. attended or from which credit was awarded.
• PCAT scores must be sent to PharmCAS directly.

Interview

• Interview invitations will be sent out anytime between January and April.
• Interview dates for 2013-2014: start in late January/early February and run through April.
• Type of interview: Traditional, Applicants will be interviewed by three members of the UW School of Pharmacy PharmD Admissions Committee for 30-45 minutes

  • PharmCAS On-line “Early Decision” Application Submission Deadline: 11:59PM EST (8:59 PST)
  • UW SOP Supplemental Application Postmarked Deadline: *September 3, 2013 or hand delivered by 5PM
• October 2013 “Early Decision” interviews are conducted
• October 18, 2013 “Early Decision” decisions are DUE to PharmCAS
• January 6, 2014:
  • PharmCAS On-line Regular Application Submission Deadline: 11:59PM Eastern Time (8:59P Pacific Time)
  • UW SOP Supplemental Application Postmarked Deadline: January 6, 2014 or hand-delivered by 5PM
• January—April 2014 Traditional application interviews are conducted
• February—May 2014 Letters notifying ALL applicants of Admissions Committee decision are sent
