Admissions Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Note: FCE = Full course equivalent
  • At least 3 years towards a 4-year bachelor degree from a Canadian university or equivalent
  • Required Courses
    • Two FCEs in any life science
    • One FCE in any of social sciences, humanities, or a language
  • Recommended Courses
    • One course in Statistics
    • Two courses that required expository writing

  • Minimum grade/GPA: 3.6
    • Average grade/GPA of admitted applicants in 2016: 3.95
  • Calculation method:
    • GPA is calculated as an average of all courses completed at the time of application.

  • Minimum score: 125 in each section
  • The most recent MCAT scores will be considered
  • The MCAT must be taken within five years of the application deadline.

  • Personal essays – four essays, 250 words or less each
  • Autobiographical sketch
    • In addition, applicants are required to submit three brief ABS statements (250 words or less each) outlining the three activities and/or achievements from the sketch that best exemplify the attributes that align with the Faculty’s Undergraduate Medicine educational goals
  • Three letters of reference
  • Official transcripts from universities attended

Interview

  • Approximately 600 applicants are invited for an interview.
  • Interview invitations and refusal letters continue to be sent until the last interview date, as the files are reviewed.
  • Interview dates for 2017-2018 admission cycle: Late February – mid-April

  • Mid-July 2017: OMSAS application becomes available online
  • Sept. 15, 2017: Deadline to create OMSAS account
  • Oct. 1, 2017: Deadline to submit applications
  • Oct. 1, 2017: All transcripts and academic documents must be received by OMSAS
  • Oct. 1, 2017: Deadline to pay application fee
  • Nov. 1, 2017: Deadline to release MCAT scores to OMSAS
  • May. 9, 2017: First offers of admission
  • June 30, 2017: Deadline for final transcript submissions
