Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

• Degree: Minimum 3 years (87 credits) of undergraduate study in Canada or the US. Students are encouraged to take courses other than those of the biological and physical sciences.
• Required Courses:
  • English (6 credits) – 2 composition courses or 1 composition course with another writing intensive course in literature or humanities.
  • General Biology or Zoology with lab (8 credits)
  • General Chemistry with lab (8 credits)
  • Organic Chemistry with lab (8 credits)
  • Physics with lab (8 credits)
  • Biochemistry (3 credits)
  • Mathematics (3 credits): college algebra or precalculus, computer science, or statistics
  • Applied Human Psychology (3 credits): general human psychology, child psychology, or business psychology
• Science coursework must be taken within 5 years of applying
• Recommended Courses
  • Art (3-D drawing or sculpture), cell biology, histology, human anatomy, microbiology, physiology, genetics, immunology and statistics.

  • Student should score at or above the national average of each section.

  • Personal statement describing the applicant’s achievements and interest in dentistry
  • 3 letters of recommendation (2 from the science faculty, 1 from an employer/supervisor)
• School of Dentistry Supplemental Application
• DAT scores
• Orientation to Dentistry Statement: documents the applicant’s observation/participation of patient care in a general dentistry practice
  • Minimum 30 hours of observation in general dentistry required
• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores if applicant’s primary language is not English.
  • Minimum score (internet based)
    • Overall score: 96-97
    • Writing: 25
• Personal service to people on a one-to-one basis is also an asset: examples include involvement as a youth counselor, nurse aid, etc.
