Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: minimum 60 credits of university level courses
  • Required Courses:
    • Intro. Chemistry
    • Organic Chemistry: 2 semesters with labs
    • Biochemistry: 2 semesters
    • Physics: 2 semesters with labs
    • Biology: 2 semesters with labs
    • English: 2 semesters
    • Humanities/Social Sciences: 2 semesters

GPA

  • Minimum Core Course GPA 2012:
    • 3.40 for Manitoba applicants
    • 3.80 for out-of-province applicants
  • Calculation method:
  • Adjusted GPA calculation for applicants with two years of pre-dental studies:
    • (2x average of CORE courses) + (1x average of lower year) + (3x average of better year) all divided by 6.
  • Adjusted GPA calculation for applicants with 3 or more years of pre-dental studies:
    • (2 x the average on the CORE courses) + (0 x the average on lowest year) +(3 x the average on best year) + (1 x the average on each remaining full academic year of studies) all divided by number of courses as appropriate

  • Only the single best DAT score within the past 3 years will be considered
  • Minimum PAT score: 14
  • Minimum Carving Dexterity score: 12
  • Average DAT score 2012:
    • 18.66 Manitoba applicants
    • 23.00 out-of-province applicants

  • Selection for interview
    • minimum core course average, which may change year to year depending on applicant pool
  • Final Selection
    • rank-ordered by an overall score based on the equal weighting of the Adjusted Grade Point Average (AGPA) (as of June 3rd of the year of application), the Canadian Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) scores, and the interview scores.

  • Interview Dates 2013-2014: April (end) - May (beginning)

  • 45 minutes interview with panel of two individuals

Timeline for 2013-2014 Application Session

  • November 3, 2012: Last possible Dental Aptitude Test (If you are granted an interview you may use the February 2012 DAT)
  • January 21, 2013: Application deadline
  • February 15, 2013: Last date for receipt of transcript by the Enrolment Services/Admissions Office; final date for receipt of DAT score reports
  • End of March 2013: Interview selection decision released
  • End of April or beginning of May 2013: Interview
  • June 3, 2013: Last date for receipt of Final Transcripts and the receipt of Feb. 2012 DAT score reports
  • June 30, 2013: Applicants will be notified by this date of final selection decision
