Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

• A baccalaureate degree must be earned prior to the anticipated enrollment.
• Required Courses:
  • General biological sciences or equivalent + lab (2 courses)
  • General inorganic chemistry or equivalent + lab (2 courses)
  • Organic chemistry + lab (2 courses) - Note: One course of introductory biochemistry may substitute for the second organic chemistry.
  • General physics + lab (2 courses)
  • Advanced-level biology (must be atleast a 200 level course - 1 course)
  • Behavior/Social Sciences (Psychology, Anthropology, Gender Studies, Economics, or Sociology) (3 courses): 2 out 3 must be from same field of study

• No specific requirements
• Mean GPA for 2013 class: 3.6

• All applicants must take the MCAT
• The MCAT must be taken no more than 3 years prior to the expected date of enrollment.
• Average MCAT score in 2013: 31 (old version)

Supporting Documents

• AMCAS online application
• Supplemental application form only sent to applicants once AMCAS application submitted
• CASPer completion is also required.
  • Only sent to applicants they are seriously considering for admission
• Letters or Recommendation:
  • Premedical committee evaluation OR
  • 3 letters from instructors (in any field of study) to which the applicant had been enrolled in classes
    • 1 of these letters can be from a research mentor
    • The letters must critically evaluate the candidates academic ability, strengths/weaknesses, etc
    • Personal letters of recommendation are NOT accepted.
• Medical Immunizations
• Self-certification to Safety & Technical Standards requirement.

Evaulation

• Cumulative grade point average considering degree program and MCAT score are considered to assess academic achievement for each applicant.
• In addition to the overall academic record, the Committee considers personal characteristics, such as motivation and communication skills. Students are selected who demonstrate emotional stability, maturity, integrity, and the passion necessary for the successful study and practice of medicine.
• The Committee also seeks to identify those applicants who will contribute academic, nonacademic, and socioeconomic diversity/heterogeneity to the entering class.

Interview

Interviews take place from August 2017 to March 2018
Students will have an opportunity to select the specific campus and date for their interview from the locations and dates available

• Chicago
  • The interview day consists of the Dean's welcome, lunch, interview, and a tour of the clinical facility.
  • Three individual 30 minute interviews with a faculty member, and/or a current medical student, and/or staff member.
• Peoria
  • The interview day consists of the Dean's welcome, lunch, interview, and a tour of the clinical facility.
  • Two 25-30 minute interviews with one faculty member/physician and one current medical student.
• Rockford
  • The interview day consists of the Dean's welcome, lunch, interview, and a tour of the clinical facility.
  • Panel format
  • Three interviewers: two faculty members and one medical student
  • 30 minutes: 25 minutes for the interviewer to ask questions, and 5 minutes for the applicant to ask any questions.

• April, 2017: AMCAS applications available
• June, 2017: AMCAS applications may be submitted
• July-December, 2017: Selection of applications with completed AMCAS application are invited to submit supplemental applications materials
• August-March, 2017: Applicants invited for campus interviews
• September, 2017: Last chance to take MCAT
• September-March, 2017: Admissions offers sent to selected candidates
• November 1, 2017: Deadline for AMCAS application
• December 1, 2017: Deadline for UICOM supplemental application and fee
• December 1, 2017: Letters of Recommendation due with AMCAS
• January 2018: Submit Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov
• April 30, 2018: AAMC acceptance protocol deadline
