• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS)

Admissions Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

• Degree: Minimum 60 credits completed of post-secondary studies (10 full year course equivalents or 20 half year course equivalents)
  • Of the 60 credits, 30 credits must be taken during the academic year (Fall/Winter semester).

  • General Chemistry (6 credits)
  • Organic Chemistry (6 credits)
  • Biology (6 credits)
  • Physics (6 credits)
  • English (6 credits)
  • Statistics (3 credits)
  • Introductory Biochemistry (3 credits)
• Note
  • The prerequisite requirements must be passed with a minimum grade of C-.
  • General Chemistry: IB Chemistry HL with a grade of 6 or 7 is equivalent to Chemistry 101 (3 credits).
  • Biology: IB Biology HL with a grade of 6 or 7 is equivalent to Biology 107 (3 credits).
  • English: IB English HL with a grade of 6 or 7 will meet the English requirement.

GPA

• Overall GPA 2016: 3.61-4.00
• Average grade/GPA of admitted applicants 2016: 3.85
• Minimum accepted grade/GPA 2016 (domestic applicants invited for an interview): NA
• Minimum accepted grade/GPA 2016 (international applicants invited for an interview): NA
• Calculation method:
• For applicants who have completed at least four or more years of full-time postsecondary work, the semester with the lowest GPA will not be included in the calculation of the cumulative GPA (provided that the worst semester is not the most recent Fall/Winter or the only semester with a full course load).

DAT

• Reading Comprehension mean – 22.75 (with a range from 19- 29)
• Perceptual Ability mean – 21.50 (with a range from 17 - 26)
• Manual Dexterity mean – 24.15 (with a range from 16 - 29)
• DAT must have been written within 5 years of the application deadline
• Only the highest set of DAT scores are taken into account
• Only the Canadian DAT version accepted

• Registration fee ($ 75 for University of Alberta students, $ 115 for all other students)
• Results from the Canadian Dental Aptitude Test
• Official transcripts of your academic record. All previous post-secondary academic records must be provided.

Interview

• Interview Dates: March 4, 2017
• Interviews evaluate an applicant's maturity, motivation, initiative, ability to communicate, personal qualities and interests
• Multiple Mini Interview (MMI)
  • interviewee will be exposed without interruption to a series of stations, each of which will take 10 minutes to complete
