Program Information

• Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)
• 4 years or 5 years in length which includes a preparatory year for applicants admitted from CEGEP, applicants whose education is considered equivalent to a Diplôme d’études collégiales (DEC) and for applicants who completed a Bachelor’s degree or a degree deemed equivalent to the preparatory year. For DEC equivalencies, click here
  • Students that successfully pass the preparatory year are automatically promoted into the first year the 4-year DMD program without having to submit a new application.
• Admission to the preparatory 1 year program is limited and applicants are chosen based on academic excellence.
• Number of applications in 2012: 742 (including 203 CEGEP applicants)
• Class size in 2012: 88 (including 40 CEGEP applicants)
  • At least one space is reserved for individuals who have completed their dental studies in a university outside of Canada.
• Individuals who have already done studies in Dentistry at another Quebec university are ineligible to apply.
• Individuals who have completed their dental studies in a university outside of Canada may be admitted into the 2nd year of the program.

Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

• Degree: Either one of the following:
  • Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in Sciences, Letters and Arts
  • DEC in Health or Pure and Applied Science and have completed Biology 00XU and Chemistry 00XV
  • Any other DEC issued by the Ministère de l’Éducation du Quebec and successfully completed the following courses:
    • Biology 301 and 401, or 2 human biology courses
    • Chemistry 101, 201 and 202
    • Math 103 and 203
    • Physics 101, 201 and 301
  • Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree or a degree deemed equivalent to the preparatory year
    • As an example, the following programs from l’Université de Montréal are considered equivalent to the preparatory year (other programs may be deemed equivalent by the Admissions Committee):

1. Bachelor’s in Audiology
2. Bachelor’s in Biochemistry
3. Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences
4. Bachelor’s in Biomedical Sciencest
5. Bachelor’s in Biopharmaceutical sciences (sciences biopharmaceutiques)
6. Bachelor’s in Nutrition
7. Bacherlor’s in Nursing
8. Bachelor’s in Occupational Therapy
9. Bachelor’s in Orthophony
10. Doctorate in Pharmacy
11. Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy

GPA

• The University does not have any available GPA minimum available.
• Lowest cote de rendement collégial (CRC) accepted for an interview in 2009 from a CEGEP student: 32.937
• The University also uses a grading system for university candidates called the cote de rendement universitaire (CRU). However, there is no cut-off point or any average accepted CRU available.

DAT (a.k.a. the Test de l'Association dentaire canadienne (TAED) in French

• The DAT is only offered twice during the year: February and November
• Candidates need the following scores:
  • Manual Dexterity: 5
  • Perceptual Ability: 10
• It is only required that the candidate passes the examination since the evaluation of a candidate’s file does not take into account the score.
• Candidates may retake the test many times.

Supporting Documents

• Proof of French proficiency with either:
  • Successful completion of L’Épreuve uniforme de la langue et littérature française from the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS).
  • Obtained 850/990 on the Test de français international (TFI). The cost for the TFI is $60. This information can be found here here (page 5)
• A 2-page letter of motivation written in French. It must be submitted online before the application deadline.

Other Requirements

• Be a Canadian citizen or have a status as a permanent resident by the application deadline.
• All candidates must make an application for the preparatory year DMD program. Depending on the applicant’s academic profile, the Admissions Committee decides if a candidacy will be considered for the preparatory year or the first year in the 4-year program.
• Candidates must have completed all the required courses within 8 years before the application deadline.
• Pass a medical exam if the Admissions Committee requires it.

• Tuition for Canadian Students from Outside Quebec
