Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Bachelor’s Degree (4-year undergrad)
    • In addition, applicants are expected to have at least 1 year of full-time work experience
    • Only 5% with no job experience were accepted in 2011

  • Median (2011): 3.75
  • Middle 50% GPA (2008): 3.28-3.82

LSAT

  • Middle 50%: 161-171
  • The LSAT should be taken no later than December; however, February LSAT can be used depending on how many seats are left for the incoming class
  • If taken more than once, highest LSAT score is taken into consideration.

Supporting Documents

  • The Law School Data Assembly Service Law School Report (LSDAS) - the LSDAS report is mailed directly to the university.

  • For Financial Aid:
    • A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)- not applicable to international students
    • A Need Access Application- must be mailed to the financial aid office at Northwestern
    • A University Aid Application – for US students only
    • A signed copy of the applicant’s 2008 federal income tax return (includes all schedules and W-2 forms)
  • Grants, Scholarships, and Loans are also offered, however loans are offered only to US Citizens or Permanent residents.

Interview

  • Interviews are optional
  • Early September - March 1 (on-campus interviews)
  • 30-minute interviews are conducted by a member of the Faculty, a current student, or an alumni.
  • May be interviewed either on- or off-campus
  • Interviews are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis
  • Interviews should be requested online one month prior to the desired date.

    • Application for admission filing period begins.
    • On-campus interviewing begins.
    • Off-campus interview requests open.
  • Oct25: Deadline to request on-campus interviews for Early Decision candidates
  • Nov15: Deadline for mandatory on-campus interviews for Early Decision candidates
  • January 15
    • Deadline to request off-campus interviews.
    • Deadline for receipt of completed Accelerated JD application.
    • Deadline for receipt of completed ALLM application.
    • Deadline for receipt of completed LLM / Kellogg application.
    • Deadline for receipt of completed LLM and LLM in Human Rights application.
  • February 15
    • Deadline for receipt of completed JD application.
  • February 28
    • On-campus interviewing period ends.

    • Deadline for receipt of completed Two-Year JD Application.

Tuition 2013-2014

    • JD and Two-Year JD (for international students) degree programs: $54,764
    • Accelerated JD program: Summer 2013 Term: $31,900, Fall 13/Spring 14: $65,714
  • Application fees and deposits:
    • Application fee: $100 USD (non-refundable)
    • Deposit (for all accepted students): $750 USD
    • Late tuition penalty fee: $200 USD
