Program Information
- MD Program – four years in length: Preclerkship for 64 weeks of study of basic biomedical principles. Clerkship and Core rotations are during the next two years. The final eighteen weeks are available for elective study.
- Must complete a month in a rural setting
- Selection Process:
- 1. Eligibility Requirements
- 2. Excellence of Academic Work (GPA cut-offs)
- 3. Assessment of Autobiographical Sketch
- 4. Interview
- 5. Combined assessment of Interview with Academic Assessment
- Applicants for 2010: 3,638
- Target class size for 2011: 156
- Restricted to Canadian Citizens or Canadian permanent residents

Admission Requirements
Course and Degree Requirements
- Degree: three years of full-time studies (15 credits) in any degree leading to a bachelor’s degree
- Courses taken during the summer count towards the credits but not towards calaculation of GPA
- Required Courses
- General Biology with lab (the equivalent of one full year course)
- Humanities or Social Sciences (the equivalent of one full year course)
- Note: Second language courses are not recognized as these
- Psychology will be accepted in this category
- The equivalent of two full year courses in any of the following:
- General Biochemistry without lab
- General Chemistry with lab
- Organic Chemistry with lab
- Note – AP Credits will NOT be recognized

GPA
- Every year, a minimum WGPA (weighted grade point average) is set for current pool
- The required minimum WGPA varies according to the background of the applicant and where he/she resides
- GPA is weighted according to the years of study completed at the time of registration as well as the year of study
- If applying during 3rd year: (1st year gpa * 1 + 2nd year gpa * 2 ) / 3 = WGPA
- If applying during 4th year: (1st year gpa * 1 + 2nd year gpa * 2 + 3rd year gpa * 3) / 6 = WGPA

- The MCAT is NOT required nor is it assessed – Applicant’s academic record will be scrutinized that much more closely

- Autobiographical sketch - including formal education, employment, volunteer activities, extracurricular activities, awards and accomplishments, research history
