Program Information

  • Master of Science (M.Sc)
    • Doctoral-stream/Research-based: Regular research master’s involving a mix of research and coursework – usually completed in one year and guaranteed funding for at least one year
  • Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc)
    • 2-year research project and a formal written thesis required
    • Must be completed within 3 years
    • Guaranteed funding for 2 years (the funding for the second year must be provided by the supervisor)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
    • Full-time enrollment only
    • Must be completed within 6 years
    • Guaranteed funding for four years or five years for direct-entry students

  • M.Sc.: four-year B.Sc degree or B.A.Sc degree or equivalent for either
  • Ph.D.: research-oriented M.Sc. degree or equivalent
  • It is recommended that students directly contact potential research supervisors to discuss graduate research BEFORE application

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) for M.Sc.
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.3 for Ph.D.

    • TOEFL: IBT(minimum overall 93 and 22+ in writing & Speaking sections), PBT(minimum 580 and 5.0+ for TWE)
      • For TA applicants, the minimum is 100.
    • MELAB: minimum 85
    • IELTS: minimum 7.0
    • COPE: minimum 76 with 22+ in each component and 32+ in Writing
