Program Information
M.Sc. Astronomy
- thesis and 18 credits of coursework.
Ph.D Astronomy
- thesis and 12 credits of coursework.
Admission Requirements
- M.Sc: BSc. in Physics, Astronomy, or Mathematics or a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Physics or Electrical Engineering
- Ph.D: M.Sc in Physics, Astronomy, or Mathematics and a committed research supervisor.
GPA
- Minimum GPA: 3.5 (80%)
- Direct transfer to PhD program is possible in some cases after completing 1 academic year in UBC’s Master’s program

- Three (3) references from professors or supervisors
- Can be submitted electronically
- Official TOEFL or IELTS examination results – required for applicants from a university outside of Canada where English is not the primary language of instruction.
- TOEFL minimum score: 55 for each section (paper-based), 90 (internet-based) with 22 in reading and listening and 21 in writing and speaking.
- IELTS: 6.5 overall score and 6.0 minimum in each section.
- GRE scores if applicable

2012-2013 Tuition
- Full-time, domestic: $4,897.86 per year
- Full-time, international: $8,604.66 per year
