Program Information

  • M.Sc. in Physics
    • Two year program
    • Students are required to take a minimum of four one-semester courses
    • Research project (thesis) and oral exam are also required
  • After one year in the M.Sc. program, students are eligible to apply to transfer into the Ph.D. program
  • Focus areas:
    • Astrophysical sciences
    • Condensed matter physics
    • Geophysical sciences
    • Particle physics

  • Completion of 4-year honours degree in one of the following:
    • Physics
    • Geophysics
    • Engineering
    • Astronomy
    • Geology
    • Mathematics

  • Minimum: 3.2 (4.0 scale)
  • Calculated over last two years of undergraduate study

  • GRE physics exam not required, but recommended

Language Requirements

Minimums:

  • TOEFL: minimum of 550 (paper); 88 overall (internet) with a min. of 20 on each component
  • IELTS: 6.5 overall with a min. of 5 on each band
  • CAEL: 60 overall with a minimum of 60 on each subtest
  • MELAB: 85 overall
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PET Academic): 60

  • Submit application through the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research(FGSR
    • $100 application fee (CAD)
  • Application form
  • Curriculum Vitae: 3 pages or less
  • Statement of Purpose: 500 words or less
  • Three letters of reference
    • Referees must complete a letter of support, but may also submit non-structured reference letter
    • Must be submitted by mail (cannot be emailed)
  • Two copies of official post-secondary transcripts

    • Applicants will be considered after this date, if space is available

Tuition 2018-2019

  • Tuition varies depending on number of credits
  • For Canadian student, full-time study tuition is approximately $5,623
  • For international student, full-time study tuition is approximately $9,019
  • In general, all M.Sc. students receive financial support through teaching and research assistantships
