Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

• Master of Science
  • Degree: Bachelor's degree in a relevant academic discipline
    • Minimum: undergraduate degree in Science with at least a strong minor in Computer Science
  • Required Courses

    • COMP 250 - Introduction to the Design and Implementation of Computer Algorithms and Data Structures
    • COMP 251 - Data Structures and Analysis of Algorithms
    • COMP 273 - Computer Systems
    • COMP 302 - Programming Languages
    • MATH 222: Calculus III
    • MATH 223: Linear Algebra
    • MATH 240: Discrete Structures
    • Four Advanced Courses (list can be found here)
• Doctor of Philosophy
  • Degree: Master's degree in Computer Science or a closely related area
  • In special cases, students holding a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with an outstanding academic record may be admitted directly to the Ph.D. program but they must first apply to the M.Sc program.

GPA

• Minimum CGPA: 3.2 (4.0 scale)
  • If CGPA is slightly lower but the applicant possesses a superior record in Computer Science and Mathematics, his or her application may still be considered.

GRE

• Applicants are encouraged to take the GRE; however, it is not required unless the applicant did not complete a degree in Canada

  • If the transcript does not indicate that a degree has been conferred a copy of the degree certificate (diploma) will also have to be uploaded.
  • English/French translation provided by the institution issuing the transcript or by a certified translator must accompany transcripts written in other languages than English/French
• 2 letters of recommendation
• Official GRE scores (if applicable)
• Official TOEFL/IELTS scores (if applicable)
• CV
• For Ph.D applicants:
  • a statement outlining the objective of their graduate program
  • a list of at least 3 potential supervisors

Note: Most Computer Science graduate students are admitted to the Fall semester and in exceptional cases, students may be admitted to the Winter semester.

• January 1st: Application deadline to be considered for financial support.
• March 1st: Application deadline with possible consideration for financial support.
• September 1st: Application deadline for the Winter semester (Ph.D.)
