Program Information

  • Master of Science (MSc)
  • A co-op program exists where students can work in their field of study for 4 – 8 months. The work terms are considered pass/fail non-credited courses.

Admission Requirements

Course and Degree Requirements

  • Degree: Either a 4-year Bachelor’s degree, Honours degree, or an equivalent degree from an approved university in a related domain.
  • Required Courses: Extra undergraduate courses must be taken if the candidate’s degree is not related to the field of study of the graduate program that they are applying to.

GPA

  • Minimum: 70% average (grade “B-“) in the candidate’s major courses during their last 2 years of undergraduate study.

GRE

  • International students need to complete the GRE and send their scores to the University.

Supporting Documents

  • Application form
  • Two official copies of transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
  • A statement that includes the applicant’s research interests and if they will be having an internship.
  • C.V.
  • Two letters of reference
  • Graduate Teaching Assistantship form

Other Requirements

  • Proof of English proficiency if the applicant’s institution’s language of instruction was not English with TOEFL scores.
International Applicants
  • International applicants must meet the English proficiency requirement with either of the following:
  1. Finished 3 years of full-time studies in an English language institution that is approved by Acadia University and must include two (non-ESL) grade 12-level English language or Literature courses.
  2. A Bachelor’s or Postgraduate degree that was taught in English.
  3. Applicant’s whose mother tongue is not English must complete one of the following tests with the following minimum scores:
  • IELTS (Academic only) - 6.5 overall with no subtest score below 6.0
  • TOEFL - 93 IBT with no subtest score below 20
  • CAEL - 70 overall with no subtest score below 60
  • PTE Academic - 61 with no subtest score below 60

Timeline

  • February 1: Deadline to be considered for funding and application deadline for Teaching Assistantship
  • March 15: Application deadline (although it may be earlier if all the positions have been filled already)
  • May 31: Last day for offers of admission for the September semester
  • September 30: Deadline to opt out of Health and Dental Plans

Canadian Students that are Non-Residents of Nova Scotia
  • First year tuition: $ 6,043.00
  • Co-op work term: $ 873.00/4 months
  • Co-op internship: $ 1,734.00/12 – 16 month course
Canadian Students that are Residents of Nova Scotia
  • First year tuition: $ 4,760.00
  • Co-op work term: $ 873.00/4 months
  • Co-op internship: $ 1,734.00/12 – 16 month course
International Students
  • First year tuition: $ 12,215.00
  • Continuing in co-op work program: $ 1,799.00/semester
  • Co-op internship: $ 3,574/16 month course
All Students
  • Application fee: $ 50.00
  • Dental Plan: (optional if the applicant has proof of another health coverage program)
    • Single Person: $ 120.50/12 months
    • Family: $ 257.50/12 months

Funding

  • Students may receive $ 9,000/year from September – April through Teaching Assistantships.
  • International applicants must secure at least $18,000 in funding before applying for a student visa
